Henry J. Heinz
Henry John Heinz ( born October 11, 1844 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, † May 14, 1919 ) was a German - American businessman and manufacturer of Heinz ketchup.
Heinz was born as one of eight children of German immigrants, his father, Johann Heinrich Heinz (* August 5, 1811 in Kallstadt, † December 23, 1891 in Pittsburgh), came from Kallstadt in the Palatinate, the mother (Anna Margaretha Schmidt) from Hesse.
1869, Heinz and his friend L. Clarence Noble Heinz Noble & Company, whose main product was horseradish in transparent glasses ( to prove the purity of the product). 1875 this company had to file for bankruptcy, but Heinz was not discouraged and founded a year later with his brother and a cousin of the F. & J. Heinz Company, in whose product range a few years later tomato ketchup appeared. Heinz took over in 1888, the shares of its business partners, the company restructured and named it, HJ Heinz Company. A commitment to high quality standards on the one hand and massive advertising on the other hand included the formula for success of food industrialists. After the founder's death in 1919 his son Howard Heinz until 1941 and led his grandson Henry John ( "Jack" ) Heinz II until 1987, the company and built it from. His great- grandson Henry John Heinz III (1938-1991) was with Teresa Heinz - the second wife of U.S. politician John Kerry - married and died in 1991 in the crash of his private airplane.
Heinz was aged several times in Kallstadt 's visit and spent several spa stays in Bad Kissingen - last 69 -year-old in 1914, when he was surprised by the outbreak of the First World War and the hotel could not leave. Nevertheless, he managed to escape and return via Holland to the United States. This was his last visit to Germany.
