Henry of Langenstein

Henry of Long Stone (also: Henry of Hesse the Elder; actually: Heinrich hornbeam; * 1325 in Long Stone at Marburg, † February 11, 1397 in Vienna ) was a theologian, church leaders and astronomer. He was re-organizer of the University of Vienna.

Life

Heinrich Lange Stein studied in 1358 in Paris. At the Sorbonne, he received in 1363 the chair of philosophy and he was promoted to Vice-Chancellor. He was (1378-1447) on the part of Pope Urban VI in the Great Western Schism. and suggested the convening of a council. Therefore, he had to his position in 1382 and eventually leave France. The following year, held on Heinrich longer time in the Eberbach monastery whose abbot Jacob Eltville to 1372 was also a professor at the Sorbonne.

In 1384 he became professor of theology at the ( 1365 established ) University of Vienna, but also taught astronomy. Georg Tannstetter added in 1514 his edition of astronomical tables also a history of Viennese mathematician and astronomer at: Viri Mathematici. This story begins with Henricus de Hassia Germanus.

1393/94 he was rector of the university.
