Henry, son of Edward I

Henry of England (* July 12, 1267 at Windsor Castle, † October 14, 1274 in Merton, Surrey ) was the fifth child of Edward I of England and his wife Eleanor of Castile.

At the time of his birth, his paternal grandfather was Henry III. , Still in office, his father Prince Edward at the time was the first in line of succession. Second was his eldest son, John, who was a year older than Henry, and thus Henry was initially in third position.

On August 3, 1271 John died, by Heinrich was the eldest surviving child, second in line to the throne after his father Prince Edward.

Henry III. died on November 16, 1272, Edward was crowned on November 20, King of England and Henry thus his direct heir to the throne. He remained two years in this position, however, died in 1274 of natural causes; was succeeded by his brother Alphonso.

He was buried in Westminster Abbey.
