Henry V of Luxembourg

Henry V of Luxembourg, called the Blonde, (* 1216, † December 24, 1281 in Mainz ) was from 1247 to 1281 Count of Luxembourg, Count of Laroche and Margrave of Arlon. Between 1256 and 1264 he also called himself Count of Namur.

Life and work

Henry V of Luxembourg was the third son of Duke Walram IV of Limburg ( Limburg- house Arlon ) and Ermesinde II of Luxembourg (House of Namur). He founded the House of Limburg - Luxembourg.

In 1240 he married Margaret of Bar (* 1220, † 1275 ), daughter of Henry II the Count of Bar and Philippa of Dreux. Margareta brought as a dowry the rule Ligny in marriage. They had the following children:

He was given dominion Ligny by his wife as a dowry, under the condition that this would remain a fief of the Counts of Bar. Contrary to this agreement took Henry the Blonde then the fief in 1256 by Theobald V, Count of Champagne. Henry married in 1253 participated in the victorious battle from his perspective at West Chapel, the military climax of the Flemish War of Succession.

In 1256, Heinrich captured Namur, while Mark Count Baldwin of Courtenay was in Constantinople Opel. Then he stepped from his rights to the Margraviate of Namur to Guy of Dampierre, Count of Flanders, who took up the struggle and of Namur Heinrich reconquered. In 1270, Gottfried was followed by the French king Louis IX. ( the Holy ) on the seventh crusade to Tunis.
