Henry Walters

Henry Walters ( born September 26, 1848 in Baltimore, † November 30, 1931 in New York ) was an American industrialist and founder of the museum.

Walters attended Georgetown University and Harvard University until 1872 and then worked in the railway company of his father, William Thompson Walters. Since 1894 he was president of the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad and moved its headquarters to New York.

After the death of his father in 1894 he also inherited its art collection, which he expanded through numerous acquisitions. In 1909 it was donated by Henry Walters Walters Art Gallery in Baltimore.
