Henry Westenra, 3rd Baron Rossmore

Henry Robert Westenra, 3rd Baron Rossmore (* August 24, 1792, † December 1, 1860 ) was a British nobleman and politician.

Life

Henry Westenra was the eldest son of William Warner Westenra, 2nd Baron Rossmore, and his first wife Mary Anne (nee Walsh). John Craven Westenra was one of his brothers. Westenra visited until 1806 the Westminster School and afterwards at Trinity College in Dublin.

Like his father, he represented the constituency of County Monaghan in the House of Commons. He belonged to the British House of Commons from 1818 to 1830, 1831 to 1832, from 17 May to 30 July 1834 and from 1835 to 1842, when he finally the title of Baron Rossmore inherited from his father. As such, he was a member of the House of Lords. Already in 1838 he had succeeded his father as Lord Lieutenant of County Monaghan. He held until 1852 this office.

On January 25, 1820, he married Anne Douglas Hamilton ( † August 20, 1844 ), the illegitimate daughter of Douglas Hamilton, 8th Duke of Hamilton. The marriage remained childless. On 19 May 1846 he married Josephine Julia Helen Lloyd. With this he had four sons and two daughters, including Henry Westenra, 4th Baron Rossmore and Derrick Westenra, 5th Baron Rossmore. He played at a high level the Uilleann Pipes.

Westenra was buried in the cemetery of Monaghan. In 1874 he was transferred to the family mausoleum in Rossmore Park.
