Henryk Friedman

Henryk Friedman ( * 1903 in Lviv, † probably 1942 ) was a Polish chess master of Jewish origin. In the years 1926-1934 he was seven times champion city of Lwów (Lviv ). His greatest successes he achieved in 1935, when he shared second place and with the Polish team playing was on the fourth board at the Chess Olympiad in Warsaw third in the Polish Championships, and 1936, when Poland or the unofficial Chess Olympics in Munich with the team playing was second on the fifth board and there remained unbeaten. In that year he also won the Trebitsch tournament in Vienna.

In the 1930s he formed together with Stepan Popel the editors of Lvov chess magazine Szachista. After the outbreak of World War II, he played in 1940 yet the Ukrainian championship. After the attack of Nazi Germany on the Soviet Union, he came to be in 1942 in the ghetto of Lviv to death.
