Henryk Tomaszewski (mime)

Henryk Tomaszewski ( born November 20, 1919 in Poznań † 23 September 2001 in Kowary ) was a Polish mime and dancer, actor, choreographer, director and author. He founded in February 1956, the Pantomime Theatre in Wrocław ( Breslau), shall take Jerzy Grotowski as one of the greatest artists of the Polish theater of the 20th century.

Life

As a child of a German - Polish family and thereby acquired bilingualism he could move freely in both cultures, which was reflected in his choice of materials. " How much do I have drawn on this double culture, I know only today, " he once said.

Henryk Tomaszewski learned after the Second World War in Dramatic Studio from Iwo Gall and the ballet studio of Feliks Parnell in Krakow. His stage career began as a dancer of Wrocław Opera. In 1955 he organized in Wroclaw Pantomime the studio as an informal theater group, which was three years thereafter transformed into an independent and professional theater and since 1959 as Breslau pantomime theater acts ( whose director he was also, until shortly before his death). Since 1957 he gave guest performances all over the world.

Was it first sketches, so it was almost evening -filling Prdoduktionen for which he needed a larger, more versatile trained ensemble. The Tänzerische was always very strong, but later he began also spoken and sung word. Most of his stage works were influenced by the world literature: " In art, I'm interested in those situations when it seems to us that there is a definite solution, we already know everything, but in the meantime the possibility of another point, another solution emerges " he said of his choice of material.

His students included about Stanisław Brzozowski.
