Hérault

The department of Hérault [ eʀo ] is a French department of order number 34 It is in the south of the country in the Languedoc- Roussillon region and was named after the Hérault river. Capital is Montpellier.

Geography

The department of Hérault extends from the Massif Central in the north to the Mediterranean Sea in the south, which forms a 87 km long coastline there. In the northeast of the river Vidourle separates the departments of Hérault and Gard. The river flows through the Hérault département of north ( Ganges ) to its mouth in the Mediterranean at Agde. The second major river is the Orb. The Canal du Midi here takes its eastern beginning.
