Herb Pedersen
Herb Pedersen (* April 27, 1944 in Berkeley ) is an American country musician who is active as a banjo player in the bluegrass scene since the early 1960s.
Biography
Herb Pedersen made music already as a teenager, together with future stars such as Jerry Garcia and David Nelson. In 1963 he founded with his friends Butch Waller and David Nelson, the Pine Valley Boys. The group was completed by the Fiddler Richard Greene and existed until 1966. She had countless appearances, but no records were taken.
In 1966 he joined the elderly bluegrass duo Vern & Ray, which has long been a banjo player was looking for. The cooperation proved to be satisfactory such that one in 1967 moved to Nashville, the commercial center of the country music. The expected results did not materialize, however. Pedersen stepped in for a short time for the diseased Bluegrass veteran Earl Scruggs, and then returned to Los Angeles. He replaced Doug Dillard of the Dillards, the teamed up with ex - Byrd Gene Clark and the group Dillard & Clark Expedition had founded.
In the next few years he worked exclusively as a studio musician. With its 5 - string banjo, he accompanied, among others, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt and Kris Kristofferson. During this time he learned the mandolin player Chris Hillman, with whom he was to collaborate for several decades and over again. His first solo album, Southwest appeared in 1976 followed in 1977 by Sandman. He then joined the backing band of John Denver.
In the 1980s, he composed music for several television series. In 1984 his third solo LP Lonesome Feeling. A year later, he teamed up with the Hillman Desert Rose Band. The group existed until 1993 and released several successful albums. Then he founded the Desert Rose bassist Bill Bryson Bluegrass lineup Laurel Canyon Ramblers. There were three albums recorded: 1995 " Rambler 's Blues ," 1996 "Blue Rambler 2 " and 1998 " Back On The Street Again". There were other projects with Chris Hillman, from which emerged several LPs, including 1996 Bakersfield Bound, 1997 Out of the Woodwork and 2001 Running Wild.
