Herbert Brereton Baker

Herbert Brereton Baker ( born June 25, 1862 in Livesey in Blackburn, † April 27, 1935 ) was an English chemist.

Life

Baker studied 1880-1885 in Oxford, where he obtained his master's degree in 1884. 1883-1885 he was there at the demonstrator Balliot College. From 1885 to 1902 he was a Senior Chemical Master at Dulwich College, and in 1912 professor of chemistry at the University of London and Imperial College for Science and Technology in London. In 1932 he retired.

He had studied the influence of water on chemical reactions and was in the First World War expert on poison gas. 1912 Longstaff Medal of the Chemical Society, he was awarded the Davy Medal in 1923 and the Royal Society.
