Hercules and Love Affair

Hercules and Love Affair is a musical project of New York DJ Andrew Butler. Basically, the style of the group can be attributed to any single genre, it corresponds to a mixture of Electro, Indie, and dance music. The music is often described as a tribute to the early house music such as the DJs Frankie Knuckles and Marshall Jefferson and to the disco music of the late 1970s interpreted.

In addition, Andrew played Rasposo of the band Automato and Tyler Pope of! the basslines a. Common live performances are planned. However, they were in actual occupation as the opening act of Gossip on tour in Germany (2010)

Name

The connection to Greek mythology is intentional and reflects Butler's interest in the resist. Even the cover of the self-titled album is inspired by ancient Greek art; a song named after Athena, another iris. Also the scene in the video for the single blind is reminiscent of the ancient Greece. In an interview, Butler makes it clear that he had something romantic by the band the name want to give. And Love Affair on the other hand should also connect to the names of former disco bands like The Crown Heights Affair or The Rice and Beans Orchestra. Marshall Jefferson gave to some plates also the stage name of Hercules.

Reception

The self-titled album Hercules and Love Affair was extremely well received by the critical press. The intro music magazine described the style as " sensational Bastard from Chicago House, Post Punk and much Disco". Paul Flynn of the British magazine The Guardian gave the album 5 out of 5 stars, his colleague Alexis Petridis only 3 out of 5 The Times awarded 4 stars out of 5.
