Herman van Swanevelt

Herman van Swanevelt (* 1600 in Woerden at Utrecht, † 1655 in Paris) was a Dutch painter.

Svanevelt went in 1623 to Paris, and thence to Rome, where he lived until about 1637, and was then, after a short stay in the home, in 1652 in Paris, where he was member of the Academy in 1653 and died in 1655.

He has Italian landscapes in the manner of Claude Lorrain painted that one usually finds in the galleries of Rome and Florence, but also in those of Paris, Frankfurt, Munich and The Hague. Outstanding are its landscape etchings, of which he has left 116.
