Hermann Knoflacher

Hermann Knoflacher ( born September 21, 1940 in Villach, Carinthia ) is an Austrian civil engineer. He is professor emeritus at the Institute for Transport Planning and Traffic Engineering of the Technical University of Vienna.

Life, research and teaching

Knoflacher studied civil engineering, surveying and mathematics at the Technical University of Vienna. He is since 1975 professor at the Technical University of Vienna and was chairman of the Institute for Transport Planning and Engineering since 1985. His teaching focuses on spatial and urban planning, as well as influences of mobility. His theses represent an essential contribution to the concept of soft mobility dar. Since 1982 Knoflacher director of the Institute for Transport Studies in Road Safety Board Vienna, since 1993 he has full member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts since 2004 Knoflacher President of the Club of Vienna. He is also a member of the Club of Budapest and global Fußgehervertreter the United Nations. Since 2004 Knoflacher is also Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Vienna passenger lines. Hermann Knoflacher writes the environmental column in the high-circulation weekly newspaper in Austria called " the whole week ".

Hermann Knoflacher was called in by the organizer for transport planning for the Olympic Winter Games in February 2014.

Criticism of the automotive company

Knoflacher is known for his criticism of the automobile and its impact on the human environment. The car is for Knoflacher " like a virus ":

To show the problems of our transport system, he developed in 1975 the concept of " Gehzeugs ".
