Herschel Bernardi

Herschel Bernardi ( born October 30, 1923 in New York City, New York; † 9 May 1986 as Los Angeles, California ) was an American actor, voice-over and voice actor.

Life

Bernardi has worked as a child actor on the stages of the Jewish Theater and 1937-1938 appeared in two feature films. After the end of World War II he had in two Hollywood films uncredited not mentioned performances. His career came in the McCarthy era to a halt because he was " un-American activities " accused. In 1958 he won the role of Lt. Jacoby in Blake Edwards ' detective series Peter Gunn, which he represented in 102 episodes until 1961, by which he was known in the U.S. television audience. For his role, he was nominated for an Emmy in 1959. After the end of the series he first played a few guest roles in various television series, until 1970 he was awarded the title role of the sitcom Arnie. For this he was nominated twice for a Golden Globe. Of these 48 episodes was produced until 1972. One of his best-known film roles he played in 1963 in Irma la Douce The girls as Inspector Lefevre, he had a more prominent role alongside Woody Allen in the comedy The straw man. He also spoke roles in several animated films and series, and was heard as a voice-over announcer in various commercials. In the 1960s, he was also busy working on Broadway. One of his most famous roles was that of the " milkman Tevye " in the original production of Fiddler on the Roof, which he took over in 1965 by Zero Mostel. A record with the vocal performances of Broadway show placed in 1967 on the Billboard 200 Another time he played Tevye in the 1981 Broadway revival. For this he received his second Tony Award nomination, a first he had received in 1969 for his starring role in Zorba. However, Bernardi remained at all nomination constantly without distinction.

Bernardi died in 1986 at the age of 62 years at the consequences of a sudden heart attack. He was married and had a child.
