Hesiod is an impact crater in the southwest of the Moon front on the southern edge of the Mare Nubium, immediately west of the crater Pitatus.

The rim is eroded, the interior lavageflutet and flat. Located northwest of the edge starts the Rima Hesiod, which run north of Capuanus in Palus Epidemiarum in a southwesterly direction ends.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the ancient Greek poet Hesiod.
