The Hesse Park pursues a number of objectives:

  • It serves the museum collection of buildings. In it are elsewhere worn half-timbered houses from all over Hessen, two windmills from Northern Germany (1985-1987) and other buildings have been reconstructed in order to preserve them for posterity ( " translocation "). The Hesse Park comprises more than 100 buildings (as of 2008).
  • It should give an impression of typical village life in the different regions of Hesse. These regions are represented in the modules.
  • In Hesse Park, the knowledge should be preserved traditional building techniques.
  • The houses are to be used for specific, but Hesse- related trade shows. Thus, for example, im Taunus house to see a permanent exhibition about the Taunus.
  • In Hesse Park to traditional agricultural methods used and old varieties and breeds are cultivated.
  • The Hesse Park to protect the environment. This is especially the stork sanctuary to call. However, currently (as of 2010 /2011) Storks in Hesse Park no longer be found.

Conservation

The primary goal of preservation is to obtain worth protecting buildings from the original location. A monument always acts in the context of the environment in which it was built. Therefore, a displacement of architectural monuments in Germany is strictly prohibited. In exceptional cases, however, a demolition is unavoidable and permitted by a preservation order. This is according to the Hessian Denkmalschutzgesetz be the case if the obligation to obtain the object unreasonable (eg, for cost reasons) or not possible (eg in the construction of bypass roads ) is. A variety of homes that were not available at their site are broken down into their parts, now stored in Hesse Park and secured thereby. A reconstruction of houses in Hesse Park takes place train to train, thus can also make new multiple visitors annually offers the Hessen Park.

History of the site

The use of the site of present-day Hesse Park can be historically divided into three phases. In the design of the land, all three uses are shown. 1000-1100 began first clearings in the steel Hainer reason. The management took place until about 1400/1450 through the nearby forest forge steel settlement grove. On the site mainly charcoal and iron smelting was operated. In the area of steel racing grove 50 fireplaces and 500 kiln sites were found. Of these, only 5 were racing fireplaces and 15 kiln sites on the grounds of Hesse Park.

From the 15th to the 19th century decline of the iron smelting, the area was used for forest grazing.

From about 1829 to 1930 the Niederwald served to Lohgewinnung. From 1900, the first simple conifer plantations. After the Second World War the area was used mainly for firewood. Sub-areas were also cleared and served as grazing land.

Traditional techniques

The knowledge of the construction techniques of previous centuries has been lost partially. The Hesse Park strives to preserve the knowledge of construction techniques and experimentally to raise new lost knowledge. Even traditional craft techniques like the blue coloring, the production of charcoal, pottery, weaving or the blacksmith's trade will be continued in Hesse Park. Addition to the presentation of these techniques to visitors and the production of products (which can be purchased ) serves this part of the museum's work and research on the history of the craft techniques.

Another focus of Hesse park is the conservation breeding of old plant and animal species and the demonstration and preservation of old agricultural methods such as wood pasture.
