Hex; or Printing in the Infernal Method is the fourth studio album by American drone band Earth. The title is an allusion to the " infernal method" ( " infernal method") of printing in William Blake's The Marriage of Heaven and Hell.

Formation

The album was the first release of Earth, after the band had paused nine years because of Dylan Carlson's drug problems.

Style and content

The guitars on Hex, unlike the previous albums, not distorted. The album is relatively fast for the genre, the high solos of pedal steel and lap steel guitar give the music a country and Americana touch that goes beyond the Doom genre.

Reception

Despite the radical change of style " Hex" by fans and critics was often praised. The Allmusic Guide, awarded the album four and a half stars out of five. Stewart Voegtlin sees the album as a " symbol" to. Austin Gaines called it a "surprisingly nice instrumental album ," although he describes it in the same article as a " collection of riffs ".
