Hexaconazole is an active ingredient for plant protection and a chemical compound from the group of triazoles.

Production and representation

Hexaconazole can be obtained by a multi-stage reaction of m- dichlorobenzene and pentyl with trimethylsulfonium iodide, dimethyl sulfoxide and the sodium salt of 1,2,4- triazole.

Properties

Hexaconazole is a colorless solid which is virtually insoluble in water.

Use

Hexaconazole is as a broadband fungicide against Hose and Stand mushrooms in wine ( against black rot ), apples used ( against powdery mildew), coffee and peanuts. It was brought to 1986 under the name Contaf, Anvil planetarium and on the market. It acts as an inhibitor of steroid demethylation. In November 2006, the European Commission decided that hexaconazole should not be included in Annex I to Directive 91/414/EEC. Therefore, it should not be used as an active ingredient in plant protection products in the EU today. In Germany, Austria and in Switzerland, no plant protection products containing this active substance is approved.
