Hidemi Kon

Kon Hidemi (Japanese今 日 出海; born November 6, 1903 Hokkaido, † 30 July, 1984 in Kamakura ) was a Japanese writer and essayist.

Life

The younger brother of novelist and politician Kon Toko studied in Tokyo. Here he joined the group Kokoroza actor, who was also Kawarasaki Chojuro. He also worked for literary journals such as Bungei Shuto, Sakuhin, Kodo and Bugakukei, where he published literary criticism, essays, and some translations of works by André Gide.

In 1941 he was a member of the press corps in the Japanese army in the Philippines. His experiences here he worked in the narrative Sarchu Horo. For the short story Tenno no Boshi 1950 he received the Naoki Prize. Later Miki Kiyoshi ni Okeru Ningen no Kenkyu, the fictional biography of the philosopher Miki Kiyoshi was born.

During his tenure at the Ministry of Culture 1945-46 Kon founded the Japan Art Festival. He was Director General of the newly established Office of Cultural Affairs in 1968, in 1972 he finally became President of the Japan Foundation, which is dedicated to international cultural exchange.
