Hieronymus Payer

Jerome Payer (* February 13, 1787 facility in Vienna, † August 17, 1845 ) was an Austrian composer and pianist.

Life and career

Jerome Payer was the son of a teacher. Even as a 10 - year-old he earned his living as a backup musician and was then hired as a substitute teacher with his father. In 1806 he was Kapellmeister in Meidlinger summer theater, for which he even wrote little singing games. Later he moved to the inner city and performed successfully in the ball room and the Theater an der Wien. Even as a teacher, as a teacher of Leopoldine Blahetka he worked.

1821 presented Payer in Vienna for the first time Physharmonica in a public concert before. Three years later he went to Amsterdam as Kapellmeister at the local Hoogduitse Schouwburg and 1825 then to Paris. In 1832 he returned to Vienna and was the predecessor of Conradin Kreutzer for a short time Kapellmeister at the Theater in der Josefstadt.

As a pianist Payer was compared by his contemporaries to Johann Nepomuk Hummel, Ignaz Moscheles and Ferdinand Ries.
