Highland Heights is a city in Cuyahoga County, Ohio in the United States. Highland Heights is a suburb of Cleveland. The population was 8,082 at the 2000 census.
Highland Heights is surrounded by the municipalities of Willoughby Hills to the north, Mayfield East, Mayfield Heights in the south, southwest and Lyndhurst in Richmond Heights to the west.
History
Highland Heights was originally part of Mayfield Township, from which also developed three other communities in the vicinity of the city. These communities of Mayfield townships are next to Highland Heights Gates Mills, Mayfield Heights and Mayfield Village. Highland Heights was in 1920, when the commuter belt around Cleveland grew particularly strong, an independent municipality. Since 1967, Highland Heights has the status of a City.
