Hildeprand

Hildeprand was the nephew of King Liutprand. This gave him command of the army that conquered the Byzantine Ravenna, which, however, soon after 732 fell to the Venetians, with Hildeprand was taken prisoner and had to be ransomed.

He took advantage of his uncle, then a condition to engage themselves for power. However, the king got well soon and Hildeprand involved now as co-regent in the government. Liutprand died in January 744, whereupon Hildeprand who succeeded, was soon afterwards but with a rebellion of the Duke of Friuli, Ratchis faced, occupy the Pavia and Hildeprand could fall in the autumn of the same year. Later Ratchis had assassinated his rival.
