As Nuttall is called a mountain in England and Wales, the ( 609.6 meters) is at least 2000 feet high and at least 50 feet ( 15.2 meters) rises from its surroundings. This bizarre classification was introduced by John and Anne Nuttall and includes 252 mountains in England and 188 in Wales.

With the exception of Pillar Rock, a rock pinnacle at the Pillar in the Lake District all Nuttall can be climbed without special rock climbing equipment. By September 2006 134 people are known to have climbed all Nuttall.
