Geography

Geographical location

Sky Mountain is located in the heart of Carinthia northwest of Feldkirchen. The main town of the municipality, which occupies most of the Tiebeltals, is on average 672 meters above sea level. The highest elevation is the Hoferalmkopf ( about 1600 m above sea level. A. ) in the northwest, tiefstgelegener point in the Tiebel Poitschacher trench ( 625 m above sea level. Waters

The Tiebelquellen in the municipality of Himmelberg are the second largest water source area in Austria. 60 to 100 sources with excellent quality form the basis of the nature and adventure trail.

History

In today's municipality of Himmelberg were in the 9th and 10th centuries by clearing some Sundays side slopes on the upper Gurktal, which was heavily waterlogged at the time, opened up for use and occupation. As " Sulca " as area of a Slovenian Zolko the place or the parish church St. Martin was first mentioned in 1065 as a proprietary church of Eppensteiner documented. The castle "Alt - Himmelberg" was built in the 11th or 12th century. The dynasty of Himmelberg, including Wernher von Himmelberg, was first mentioned in documents in 1196. Around this time, seems the Slovenian place names Sokova to have been replaced in the dialect Zólkava, from courtly- high medieval desired name Himmelberch ( 1213). Ulrich von Liechtenstein mentions in his " wife duty " ( 1255 ) one of Zacchaeus Himmelberg as one of the singers that he had defeated in the singing contest to Friesach.

Structures

Coat of arms

As blazon the coat of arms of the lords of Himmelberg was selected whose gender was first mentioned with Wernher von Himmelberg 1196. The shield with the eagle in the gap and the right oblique beams is attested for Offo of Himmelberg in a document dated July 4, 1322. The eagle is likely to bring the vassalage to the Holy Roman Empire and the German king to express the root of the right oblique beam is unknown.

Coat of arms and flag were presented to the congregation on July 11, 1960. The official blazon of the arms is: Of Gold and Red split triangular shield, front with half black imperial eagle, the back with a silver slant right bar.

The flag is red and yellow with integrated crest.
