Hindustan Aeronautics Limited

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL ) is one of the most important aviation and aerospace companies of the Indian Ministry of Defense. Its seat is located in the Indian city of Bangalore. The main areas of the company are the manufacture of aircraft, air and space technology and communication and navigation equipment.

History

The company was founded in 1940 by Walchand Hirachand with the name Hindustan Aircraft in Bangalore to produce aircraft; The project was supported by the Kingdom of Mysore, especially by Mirza Ismail. The British government acquired in April 1941 one-third of the shares in the belief in a strategic necessity. In April 1942, it acquired the entire capital stock of Walchand Hirachand and other stakeholders to be able to act freely, with the result if Japan should attack during the Second World War. Hindustan Aeronautics has a long history of collaborations with international and domestic air carriers such as Sukhoi, Israel Aerospace Industries, Mikoyan -Gurevich, BAE Systems, Dassault Aviation, Dornier -Werke, the Aeronautical Development Agency and the Indian Space Research Organisation.

In July 2006, HAL became a joint venture with Samtel, a manufacturer of electronic display systems at. This is to develop and produce digital aircraft instruments for HAL. This is the first public-private partnership in the field of military avionics. The contracts for the equivalent of EUR 2.8 billion were signed in fiscal year 2005-06.
