Hippocrepis ( horseshoe vetch, Syn: Emerus Mill ) is a genus in the subfamily of the Fabaceae ( Faboideae ) within the legume family ( Fabaceae ).

Description

There are annual or perennial herbaceous plants or shrubs that reach very different growth heights. The unpaired pinnate leaves have three to ganzrandige many pairs of leaflets. Stipules are present.

The inflorescences are doldig. The hermaphrodite flowers are zygomorphic. There shall be flat legumes, which are often horseshoe- shaped members.

Occurrence

The species of the genus occur throughout Europe, the Mediterranean region, North Africa, the Canary Islands, Cape Verde, on the Arabian Peninsula and in Pakistan.

System

Per Lassen 1989 subtribes Coronillinae processed while the genera Coronilla, Hippocrepis and Securigera reorganized and distinguished from one another. The Strauchkronwicke ( Coronilla emerus L.) was placed in the genus Let Hippocrepis as Hippocrepis emerus (L.), for example.
