Hiroshi Toda

Hiroshi Toda (Japanese戸 田 宏, Hiroshi Toda, born 1928 in Japan) is a Japanese mathematician who deals with topology.

Toda received his doctorate in 1956 at the University of Osaka. He was then a professor in Kyoto. In 1957 he was awarded the Asahi Prize. 1959 to 1961 he was in Princeton at the Institute for Advanced Study.

Toda is known for his work on calculating the homotopy groups of spheres. The technique used here of " Toda bracket " is named after him.

He should not be with the physicist Morikazu Toda (1917-2010), the discoverer of the Toda lattice confused.
