HMAS Collins (SSG 73)

The HMAS Collins ( SSG 73 ) is the lead ship of the Collins class.

The submarine was named after the Australian Vice Admiral John Collins. Collins commanded the Second World War several Allied warships and Einsatzgruppen. He was 1948-1955 Commander in Chief of the Royal Australian Navy.

The first modules were still being produced in 1989 in Sweden. The built in Sweden included parts especially the bow and the nave. The boat was built at Osborne in Adelaide ready. When launched in 1993, the ship of the widow of the Admiral was baptized.

The Collins was not originally equipped with sound-absorbing tiles. The modern design but was later retrofitted. The other five buildings of the class have the tiles as standard.

The HMAS Collins is the only boat of the class the ability amphibious special forces to carry and these to land covered or resume.
