The HMS Astute ( S119 ) is a nuclear submarine of the Royal Navy and lead ship of the Astute class.
The keel-laying ceremony took place on 31 January 2001 in Barrow-in -Furness place, the launching took place on 8 June 2007., The submarine was christened by the Duchess of Cornwall.
18 April 2009 came rubber tiles on the conning tower of lying still in Barrow-in -Furness in the shipyard ship from initially unknown cause fire. The damage caused was limited to the outside of the U - boat. The official commissioning ceremony was held on August 27, 2010.
On 22 October 2010 the Astute ran during sea trials off the Isle of Skye on reason. The accident, in which also the helm of the Astute was damaged, ultimately declined to negligence of the guards on duty and deviations from the procedures described in the planning and implementation of the navigation. A few hours later maneuvered ship, the submarine during the flood in deeper waters. In this rescue came the collision between Astute and a tug of the Coast Guard, the forward hydroplanes was damaged on the starboard side.
On 8 April 2011 fired during a visit to local dignitaries on board lying in the docks of Southampton Astute Able Seaman Ryan Samuel Donovan six shots in the control room from; while Lieutenant Commander Ian Molyneux was killed and Lieutenant Commander Christopher Hodge injured. Able Seaman Ryan Samuel Donovan has been sentenced to 25 years in prison ..
