Hochkar

Hochkar is with a height of 1808 m above sea level. A. the highest peak of the on the Lower Austria and Styria limit Göstlinger Alps.

Geography

This 20 km long mountain chain extends west to Dürrenstein (1878 m above sea level. A. ) and is part of the mountain range Ybbstaler Alps. The mountain falls steeply to the south Salzatal, while the north side is soft and drained to the Ybbs.

Tourism and development

The Hochkar is operated in winter skiing center (Hochkar mountain railways, based in Gostling an der Ybbs ) managed and in summer pasture. The Hochkar protection home is located on 1,491 m. It is around 20 km of slopes and lifts the nine most important winter sports region of Lower Austria.

In September 2012, it was announced that the province of Lower Austria and Schröcksnadel group take over the ski area and in the next three years five million euros to invest in its development and operation.

From Lassing (municipality Gostling an der Ybbs ) the toll road Hochkaralpenstraße leads to the Hochkar.

In Hochkargebiet is also the great Hochkar.
