The high Wilde ( also Hohe Wilde, Italian: Cima Altissima ) is a mountain with two peaks, one south summit ( 3480 m above A.. ) And a north summit with 3458 m height. It is located at the intersection of Schnalskamm and Gurgler comb in the Ötztal Alps on the border between the Austrian state of Tyrol and the Italian province of South Tyrol. The mountain is often visited as a prominent vantage point. Both of the southern Szczecin hut, and on the north side, from the Hochwildehaus, there are ascents.

Was first climbed documents the Hochwilde 1852 ( according to other sources 1858), in the course of military survey by the kuk Surveying officer Captain John Ganahl, the Director of the Austrian National Survey, and some helpers and porters, farmers and herders from the Schnalstal. The first tourist ascent was then performed by Johann Jakob Weilenmann from St. Gallen on 25 July 1862 alone. The North Summit defeated first on 24 Auguste 1871 Hans Lutze of Wurmb, with the leaders of Peter Paul Gstrein and Rupert Scheiber.

Access to the summit is from the Ötztal on Hochwildehaus or from the south of the Szczecin hut in the back Passeiertal ( moss in pass eggs). The access from the north via the Gurgler addition and the north ridge of difficulty UIAA I-II to the summit. The access from the south is glacier -free. The summit is a largely beaten, safe way ( except for a short glacier field, which in mid-summer, however, is harmless ) to reach. The Hochwilde it one of the highest developed by a path peaks of the Eastern Alps.

The first mention of the mountain used - according to the language of the local population and similar to the nearby high whites - the name Hochwilde. With some cards, the variant Hohe Wilde was popularized in the sequence, but this is again increasingly given way to its original form in recent years.
