Hoffman Iceland is next to Swinburne Iceland, one of two artificial islands in the Lower New York Bay, the mouth of the Hudson River in New York, just west of Coney Iceland.

The island was filled up in 1872 and referred to as immigrants with contagious diseases who arrived at Ellis Iceland, to keep them in quarantine. Was named the island after the New York City Mayor John Thompson Hoffman.

During the Second World War, the two islands were used as anchor points for anti - submarine nets, which should prevent the penetration of U- boats in the Hudson.

Today the island is a historic monument under the direction of the National Park Service. Trespassing on the island is partially prohibited in order to protect the native birds breeding places there.
