Hohenwutzen is a village of the so-called island of New Hagen in the district or Mark- land with 773 inhabitants ( as of 2008). After incorporation in 2003 Hohenwutzen is a district of Bad Freiwalde.

Location

Hohenwutzen lies together with the villages Altglietzen, Bralitz, New Hagen and ship mill on the island of New Hagen in the north of Oderbruchs. Hohenwutzen is located on the main road 158a and border crossing to Poland. The Polish neighbor is Osinów Dolny ( German: Niederwutzen ). Grown together with Hohenwutzen is located in the south of the town Neuglietzen.

History

Hohenwutzen was mentioned for the first time along with other villages of the island today New Hagen in 1337 in the country carrying the Neumark. The village was founded by Slavic settlers. The old village, the resort still retains the shape of the Wendish the winder. The farms are arranged in a horseshoe shape around the green. There the nets were hung up and kept the cattle at night. Until the mid-18th century, the waters of the Oder flowed slow and shallow through swamp and breakage. During the time of the GDR, a ten-year Polytechnic High School was built with gym in town.

On October 26, 2003 Hohenwutzen was incorporated into Bath Freiwalde (Oder).
