Hollis Alpert

Hollis Alpert (* September 24 1916 in Herkimer County, New York, † November 18, 2007 in Naples, Florida) was an American film critic and author.

Life

Hollis Alpert, son of Abram and Myra Alpert, worked during the Second World War as a military historian for the U.S. Army. From 1950 to 1956 he wrote for the New York Times. At the same time he wrote a freelance writer movie reviews for numerous publications.

Anne Clark, mother of the artist Gordon Matta- Clark, and Hollis Alpert married in 1950. Since the marriage the wife bore the name of Anne Halpert.

In 1966 Hollis Alpert in his New York apartment - along with other film critics - the Association of National Society of Film Critics. In the same year he was on the jury of the 16th Berlin International Film Festival. Alpert was the editor of American Film magazine for the American Film Institute.
