Holly Cole

Holly Cole ( born November 25, 1963 in Halifax, Nova Scotia ) is a Canadian jazz and pop singer. Cole is best known in Canada and Japan; it has a versatile voice and sings a wide repertoire that includes jazz alongside musical pieces, rock & roll and country music.

Life and work

In 1986 she founded a trio with bassist David Piltch and pianist Aaron Davis. The Holly Cole Trio in 1989 published a maxi CD " Christmas Blues ", which shortly after the first album " Girl Talk " followed.

A series of publications in the early nineties underscored the broad musical development of the trio. In the 1991 released album Blame It On My Youth were songs by Tom Waits ( Purple Avenue, also known as the Empty Pockets ), Lyle Lovett (God Will), If I Were a Bell ( from Guys and Dolls) and On the Street Where You published Live ( from My Fair Lady) and self- Trust In Me, a Disney song from the " jungle Book". From this period comes a remarkable new interpretation of Elvis Costello's Alison.

1993 was initially Do not Smoke In Bed and then released Temptation, a CD with songs by Tom Waits. This publication has also been published only under the name of Coles.

The two subsequent albums by Cole were more oriented to pop. These albums, Dark Dear Heart (1997) and Romantically Helpless (2000), are the furthest away from jazz. Cole also appeared at the Lilith Fair Tour in 1999, a tour that occurred on the only female artist.

In 2001 she came back to the Christmas jazz roots of their first release with Baby It's Cold Outside, which contained such " classics" such as Christmas Time is Here ( from A Charlie Brown Christmas ), Santa Baby and the title track. Next, in 2003 published a "summer" CD, with pieces by Cole Porter ( Too Darn Hot ), Irving Berlin ( Heatwave ) and Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys ( God Only Knows ).

The album Holly Cole ( originally announced as This House Is Haunted ) was published in March 2007. Five years later, the next studio album Night came out a few months after using Steal The Night: Live At The Glenn Gould Studio ( CD DVD) released a live album for the first time. In the fall of 2012 was the Canadian with the album material on Europe tour with several concerts in Germany.
