Hongze Lake

BW

The Hongze Lake (Chinese洪泽湖, Pinyin Hongze Hu) is a reservoir of the Huai He and is located in Jiangsu and Anhui, China. Near the lake the provincial capitals are Suqian (District and Circle Sihong Siyang ) and Huai'an (District and Circle Xuyi Hongze ).

In 1194, according to other sources in 1680, the Yellow River changed its course and allied himself with the Huai. Sediments of the Yellow River blocked the Huai and created the lake as it is today. 1897 moved the Yellow River its course again.

The lake is partially very flat and its surface is only 15 meters above sea level. It is famous for its natural beauty and attracts tourists in large numbers. A specialty are the crabs that are caught there.

The Hongzehu dyke ( Hongzehu dadi ) in Hongze Lake is a Monument to the People 's Republic of China.
