Honoré Dutrey

Honoré Dutrey ( born February 19, 1894 in New Orleans, † July 21, 1935 in Chicago) was an American jazz trombonist of the New Orleans Jazz.

Honoré Dutrey was known for his play in the band of King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band, with whom he already occurred in New Orleans and in the 1920s in Chicago and was involved in its classical LP recordings. Even in New Orleans, he also worked in the Excelsior Brass Band, which was led by George Moret, as well as with Buddy Petit, Joe Robichaux and Jimmie Noone. In 1917 he did his military service in the Navy and then moved to Chicago. His performance contrasted with that of other New Orleans trombonist Kid Ory like. After leaving Oliver in 1924 Dutrey briefly had its own group with which he performed at the Lincoln Gardens. He also played with the other stars of the Chicago jazz scene, like the bands of Carroll Dickerson, Johnny Dodds and Louis Armstrong Stompers with whom he performed at the Sunset Cafe. Due to an accident while serving with the U.S. Navy, he suffered all his life from asthma; He therefore had to give up in 1930 the music profession.

According to the judgment of Leonard Feather Dutrey is regarded as one of the leading trombonists of his time.
