Honoré Théodoric d'Albert de Luynes

Honoré d' Albert Theodoric Paul Joseph de Luynes (* December 15, 1802 in Paris, † December 17, 1867 in Rome) was a French nobleman from the House of Alberti and 8th Duke of Luynes and Chevreuse. He became known as an archaeologist and numismatist.

Life

The Duke of Luynes came of an originally from Italy Gender of Alberti, who came to France in the 15th century and settled there .. Since 1619 took the family the title of duke.

The economically independent Luynes emerged not only as a patron of the arts, but also developed into an important archaeologist and numismatist. Although his main interest of ancient Greek art, in particular was the Greek vases, on which he published several works, so he was interested in the Phoenician coins, which he also dedicated several works. To this end he undertook a research trip to Petra and the left bank of the Jordan.

He had become a resident of Italy, where he co-founded in 1829 by the Instituto di Correspondenza Archaeological was in Rome, the secretary of the French section he was until 1848 an early age. On account of its merits, he was taken on January 24 1853 in the Prussian Order Pour le Mérite for Sciences and Arts.
