Hooks is a city in Bowie County in the U.S. state of Texas. Covering an area of almost 5.3 square kilometers, just under 3,000 people.

Hooks is part of the socio-economic region Ark- La -Tex, which includes parts of four states Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas.

Geography

Hooks located in the northeast of the state of Texas, approximately 10 kilometers from the north and 14 kilometers away from the eastern border with Arkansas. Just a few kilometers runs one of the longest rivers in the world, the Red River, which rises in western Texas and opens to the over 2000 kilometers in the Atchafalaya River. Just 15 kilometers south of the city covers approximately 82 square kilometers Wright Patman Lake.

Nearby cities include New Boston (8 miles west), Texarkana, Texas (10 km east), Maud (14 km south), Redwater (16 km south), Texarkana, Arkansas (20 km east) and De Kalb (28 km west ). Next big city with about 1.2 million inhabitants about 220 kilometers southwest away Situated Dallas.

Just south of the city limits, the 73 -square-kilometer Red River Army Depot joins the United States Army.

Traffic

Along the southern border of the city runs the U.S. Highway 82, which leads to a length of nearly 2600 miles of New Mexico to the east coast. Along the northern city boundary also extends Interstate 30, which leads to 590 miles from Texas to Arkansas.

Demography

The 2000 census showed a total population of 2973, distributed to 1215 households and 840 families. The population density was about 557 persons per square kilometer. 84.0 % of the population were white, 10.1% Black, 1.0% Native American, 0.4 % Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander. 1.5% were from a different ethnicity, 2.9% had two or more ethnicities, 3.0% were Hispanic or Latino of any ethnicity. The average age was 35 years. For every 100 females were approximately 86.6 males. The per capita income was less than 15,500 dollars, so about 17 % of the population were below the poverty line.
