New Boston is a city in Bowie County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States and the administrative seat of this county.

Geography

The city is located 35 km west of Texarkana on U.S. Highway 82 and the Missouri Pacific Railroad, almost in the extreme northeast Texas, 35 miles from Arkansas is in the north at 13 km from Oklahoma, to the east away and has a total area of 9.0 km ² without appreciable water surface.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 4,808 people in 1,968 households and 1,334 families. The population density was 531.9 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 79.49 % White, 17.64 % African American, 0.75 % Native American, 0.27 % Asian, 0.10 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 0.44 % from other ethnic groups. Approximately 1.31% were Mixed Race and 1.46 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 1,968 households, 32.8 % had children under the age of 18 living with them. 47.8 % were married couples living together. 17.6 % were single mothers and 32.2% were non-families. 30.1 % of all households were single-person households, and 15.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size amounted to 2.96.

26.6 % of the population were under 18 years old, 7.8 % from 18 to 24, 25.2% 25-44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 18.8 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 82.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 74.7 males.

The median income for a household was $ 26,531, and the median income for a family $ 38,542. Males have a median income of $ 29,940 versus $ 21,316 for females.
