Horacio Cartes

Horacio Manuel Cartes Jara ( born July 5, 1956 in Asunción, Paraguay ) is a Paraguayan businessman, politician, and since 2013 President of Paraguay.

Education and professional career

Cartes visited the Goethe School ( Colegio Goethe, a German school abroad ), the Colegio Internacional and the Jesuit Colegio Cristo Rey in Asunción. On the advice of his father, who represented the company Cessna in Paraguay, he subsequently completed an apprenticeship as an aircraft mechanic in Wichita, Kansas.

From the 1990s Cartes operated as entrepreneurs in different industries and built a business empire of banks, tobacco, beverage and food companies and retailers on the. He is also president of the football club Libertad.

Cartes one of the richest people of Paraguay.

Political career

Cartes did not occur until 2009 at the Colorado Party. In November 2010, he founded the intra-party movement Honor Colorado, and became the presidential candidate of his party determined in the internal elections in December 2012.

In April 2013 Horacio Cartes was elected with 45.8 % of the vote for president. The inauguration took place on 15 August 2013.
