Horațiu Rădulescu

Horaţiu Rădulescu ( born January 7, 1942 in Bucharest, Romania, † September 25, 2008 in Paris) was a French composer of Romanian origin.

Life

Ideologically influenced by the idea of a world Edgar Varèse he dealt especially with the invention of complex Klangkosmen in micro tonality and spectral music. By Nina Alexandrescu, a pupil of George Enescu, he received private violin lessons and later studied at the Bucharest Academy of Music with Tiberiu Olah (composition), Ştefan Niculescu ( analysis) and Aurel Stroe ( orchestration and formalized music). After graduating with a diploma " Premier nommé " In 1969, he moved to Paris.

From 1970 to 1972 he attended courses by John Cage, György Ligeti, Karlheinz Stockhausen and Iannis Xenakis at the International Summer Courses for New Music and Mauricio Kagel and Luc Ferrari in Cologne. From 1979 to 1981 he studied computer-assisted composition ( Algorithmic composition) and psycho-acoustics at the IRCAM in Paris.

In 1983 he founded in Paris with the Arditti Quartet, Pierre- Yves Artaud and other musicians, the soloists ensemble European Lucero, which since then has had many concerts in Europe and North America. 1988-89 he was a scholarship of the DAAD "Composer in Residence " in Berlin. From 1989 to 1990 he was able to work thanks to a French Villa Medici fellowship in San Francisco, Venice and Rome. In 1991 he founded the Lucero Festival with master classes for new music to life.

His compositions have been published on numerous, sometimes award-winning CDs. His entire oeuvre includes more than 100 works, including six string quartets, five piano sonatas, a piano concerto and many works for unconventional ensemble.

1974 Rădulescu obtained French citizenship; last he lived in Switzerland.
