Horná Mariková

Horna Mariková is a municipality in the north-western Slovakia with 654 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011) and belongs to Okres Považska Bystrica, Trenčín Region of a circle.

Geography

The municipality is located in Javorník Mountains on the upper course of the stream Marikovský creek. The center is located at an altitude of 440 m nm and is 20 kilometers from Považská Bystrica.

Administratively divided the community into 10 parts of communes: Belejov, Hlboké, Modlatín, Pagaňov, Ráztoka, Rovné, Stolečné, Udička, Vlkov and Žrnové.

History

The history to the 18th century is largely identical to that of the neighboring municipality of Dolna Mariková. To a settlement of the area occurred in the 17th century as part of the Wallachian colonization. 1789 a parish named Hornyo Hlboké was built. 1828 were counted 309 houses and 2,598 inhabitants. Many of them were employed in agriculture and forestry, low fertility but with many forced to seek work abroad.

1954 seceded from Horna Mariková of the previously existing community Mariková.

Population

According to the 2011 census lived in Horna Mariková 660 inhabitants, of whom 610 Slovaks, Czechs and Moravians four. 45 inhabitants did not know. 527 residents pleaded with the Roman Catholic Church and one population to the Greek Catholic, Orthodox and Apostolic Church. 31 residents were non-denominational and 99 inhabitants, the denomination is not determined.
