Horná Štubňa

Horna Štubňa ( German upper rooms or older Neustuben, Hungarian Felsőstubnya ) is a municipality in Žilinský in Slovakia.

Geography

The municipality is located in the south of Turčianska kotlina in the region Turcianska ( Turz ), at the foot of the mountains Kremnicke Hills. Other mountains in the area are the Great Fatra to the northeast and the Žiar to the west. Horna Štubňa located 6 km south of Turčianské Teplice, 15 km north of Kremnica and 30 km south of Martin.

Through the town, the state road 65 state road 14 opens to the north of the community runs. Furthermore, the municipality has a rail connection to the railway line Salgótarján - Zvolen - Vrútky.

History

The village was founded around the year 1340 and 1390 as Wylehota (ie Nová Lehota ) mentioned. Over the next 120 years, the name changed to the present form: 1407 Newstub 1415 Nova stuba, 1450 Newstubn 1493 Felsewsthubna, 1502 Nová Lehota and 1505 Newsthubna. In the period 1407-1848 it belonged to the city Kremnitz.

Until 1945, the majority of the population of German descent. Thereafter, they were expelled from the church and replaced by Slovaks. However, even 5.1% of the population known ( from a total of 1,606 ) in the 2001 census of the German minority.
