The Hörselstauwehr at Eisenach Rothenhof
The Hörsel, in Quellauf ( Small ) Leina, is a 55.2 km, about the Nesse 64.3 km long, right or eastern tributary of the river Werra in Thuringia. Their means water runoff ( MQ ) is about 6.5 m³ / s, roughly half of which comes from the Nesse, in the east of Eisenach, just under 10 km upstream of the confluence with the Werra, flows from the right.
After the Thuringian Water Act has the Hörsel that represents the longest and richest tributary of the Werra, the status of a water body of the first order and is therefore in the entertainment load of Thuringia.
The river is eponymous for the community and the Hörsel Hörselberge.
Course
The Small Leina rises in the Thuringian Forest near the Rennsteig hiking trail south of the 749 m high mountain spit on the southern boundary of the municipality of Finsterbergen to George Thal (both in Gotha ). The creek flows first to the northeast and passes various parts of Leinatal community.
In the district of Schönau before the forest branches after 8.4 km flow path from the right ( Small ) Leinakanal off later in the north flows from the left coming from Ernstroda reed water.
In Leinatal - Leina the Hörsel obtained after 16.3 kilometers as Leina with the inflow of the old water ( also: Old water) from the right and its final name change immediately their direction to the northwest.
In choosing angles and Hörselgau opens into two arms left the bath water. After passing Fröttstädt opens in Teutleben then from the right aces whose flow direction to the west the Hörsel takes to flow through after the inflow of Lauchagrund Mechterstädt.

Further west is located in Eisenach district Hörschel - the place of origin of the Rennsteig - its confluence with the river Werra.
The total length of the river "Kleine Leina - Hörsel " is 48.5 km, about 52.6 km long Nesse the Hörsel is even about 62 km long.
Tributaries
The catchment area of Hörsel divided into two major regions. The Quellauf Leina and left tributaries come from the Thuringian Forest, while all right tributaries come from the Thuringian Basin and its peripheral boards. According to the headwaters of the left tributaries are typical highland rivers with deep gorges and large bed slope, while the right inflows largely represent lowland rivers with low gradient, which almost all accrue on the Nesse the Hörsel. Your runs are today mostly straightened and integrated into a system of drainage ditches.
The catchment area of 426.3 km ² with Nesse comprises 54.4 % of the total catchment area of Hörsel and 139.5 % of the Hörseleinzugsgebietes above the Nesse - mouth ( 305.6 km ²). This brings the Nesse in about the same amount of water (3.14 m / s ) for association with the Hörsel with how this myself (3.11 m / s).
A pipeline from the Leina - and the (upper) Apfelstädt from the system Gera / Unstrut / Saale / Elbe - the subsystem of Nesse forms of Leinakanal, which was built in the Middle Ages in order to supply the city of Gotha with water from the Thuringian Forest. The flow range of Hörsel about Leina Headwaters, Leinakanal, savage trench from Leinakanal, Nesse (middle and lower reaches ) and Hörsel underflow is 8.4 29.5 9.8 26.0 = 73.3 km.
