Horst Hahne

Life

He started school after the 2nd World War and reached his secondary education in 1955. Then he started his apprenticeship in Typographic Art & the hand engraver at Ludwig & Mayer, an old-established type foundry in Frankfurt am Main. In addition to his teaching, he devoted himself to studies in typographic design. After finishing his apprenticeship Horst Hahne worked for a year at his trainer as Handgraveur before emigrating to Australia in 1959.

In Australia, he lived from 1959 to 1965 in Adelaide South Australia, 1965-1998, Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. In Canberra, he studied alongside his professional work from 1975 to 1983 Figure & Portrait Drawing at the Canberra School of Art

1996 Horst Hahne was awarded the Public Service Medal ( PSM). These civilian award is given in small numbers to Australian public servants for outstanding public work.

Work

During his long career in the Royal Australian Mint Horst Hahne has produced many coins, medals and awards for Australia and other countries as a designer and / or medal. During his numerous business trips overseas he came back to his old home: 1983 and 1991 to visit the State coin in Stuttgart and 1989 a Münztechnikkonferenz in Hamburg and 1995 to a Münztechnikkonferenz in Vienna.
