Hortenkopf

Hort head (right with television tower) and White Mountain (left behind with Luitpold tower)

The care center head is a 606 m above sea level high mountain in Rhineland -Palatinate, which is surrounded by the Palatinate forest between Hofstätten and glues. The Hort head is recognizable from afar by the telecommunications tower, erected on its summit.

The mountain is part of the Franks pasture, which represents a central massif of this low mountain range and on the same time runs the Palatine main watershed. The care center is the head zweitsüdlichste a series of four peaks that reach a height of over 600 m. To the south is the White Mountain (610 m ) when members of the community Wilgartswiesen hamlet Hermersbergerhof. To the north of the Mosisberg and Eschkopf follow (each 609 m). From Hort head out, it is possible to glues, Kaiserslautern Mölschbach, Elmstein and wander through the forest lodges Taubensuhl and Heldenstein almost to Neustadt on continuous ranges of hills without falling below the 450 -m contour line.

On Hort head, the main watershed turns to the southwest toward the castle Gräfenstein. On the southwest flank of the Hort head springs from the northern source of the brook Wieslauter that - later than Lauter - directly to the Rhine flows. Further to the north -west rises a tributary of the Merzalbe whose water over Rodalb, Schwarzenbach, assemblies, Saar and Moselle reached the Rhine.
