Hortensius (crater)

14:16

Hortensius is an impact crater on the moon western front in the plane of Insularum Mare, southwest of Copernicus and northwest of Reinhold. The round crater rim is sharply defined. The crater has the shape of a bowl with a flat bottom.

North of Hortensius is a group of six small domes shield volcanoes.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Dutch astronomer and mathematician Martin van den Hove.
