The Horton River is a river in the north-west of the Australian state of New South Wales.

The river drains most of the northern slopes of the Nandewar Range. Its source lies to the east of Mount Kaputar National Park and northwest of the city Barraba. It flows from there north through the small towns of Upper Horton and Caroda and flows between Bingara and Gravesend in the Gwydir River.

The river valley is used for cultivation and animal husbandry. It is very sparsely populated and larger towns on the river there is not. The dirt road from Narrabri to Bingara crosses the valley.
